What's The Best Anti-Crash System For Cars? (Aug 13 2003 05:38 GMT) - Following on the story from earlier today about uncrashable planes, and a similar story a few months back discussing Honda and Toyota's crash avoidance systems for cars, comes this article that looks in more detail at what is the best automobile anti-crash system. It sounds like many car manufacturers are experimenting with such systems, and no one is really sure which make the most sense. The Toyotas on sale in Japan with crash avoidance systems aren't doing that well, and the article quotes someone saying they'd rather have leather seats than a crash avoidance system. Personally, I think they sound great, and I'd certainly want one over leather seats. Still, there are plenty of questions about implementation. |

MS Blaster slows, but still spreads (Aug 13 2003 05:38 GMT) - I can honestly say that other than link dumps, I can think of no post which has had this many stories, individual stories linked to it. These are all legitimate stories, and all related to the newly famous Blaster worm. By far CNet has the most coverage, with 7 stories, and The Register and Wired each have one. Essentially, the worm targets the RPM vulnerability that Microsoft revealed a month ago, and it is very much like Code Red in that it does not require an executable to be opened, you are simply infected by virtue of net access. This time it not only affects Windows server's, indeed infecting any unpatched system. |

Well-trained (Aug 13 2003 05:35 GMT) - The cats have me well-trained. Whenever they want to get petted, I pat the bed next to me so they know where to jump and sit so they can get me to pet them. They refuse to see it as an instance of me training them to sit right there when I pat the bed so they can get petted. Silly creatures. |

More About Integration (Aug 13 2003 05:31 GMT) - Dear People, When we orient new employees, we have a standard HR couple of hours and hourly employees then train on the job. Managerial and salaried employees have an orientation that is custom designed for them. It may last one to two weeks and lets them meet the whole organization, their direct reports, and more. They should leave this orientation with a clear picture of the organization, its challenges, goals, and progress. It is challenging to make sure they receive the chance to do the orientation while also beginning their new job. |

Recycled Tunes (Aug 13 2003 05:30 GMT) - So why should I care if Aaron Carter changes "Candy" to a girl he knows that's tough and sweet? My daughters still like the song. Good taste. I'm thinking I'll just enjoy these moments, when long-forgotten songs suddenly surface on the pop culture radar, and I'm able to surprise my daughters by singing along with songs they think are brand new. The songs are new to them. |
