Ross Mayfield: interruption 'taxes' in IM, email, phonecalls (Aug 13 2003 10:59 GMT) - includes good stats for Peopleware fans. As you'd expect, generally an inverse relationship between how personal and 'intense' the type of interruption is (phonecall, email etc) and time-to-recover-from-interrupt except that IM (which has more presence than email) may extract a lower interruption tax. Another reason to use it in the office? |

More Harddisk Space Managers (Aug 13 2003 10:58 GMT) - I feel I must also give credit to Joachim Marder's TreeSize Professional, the commercial harddisk space manager I have faithfully used for the past several years. TreeSize Pro is an excellent product and quite inexpensive. Marder also offers a freeware version, TreeSize V1.7. In a comment to my previous post about FolderSizes, “kryp†recommended Folder Size Property Page, a free shell extension that adds a new tab for the Properties dialog when you view properties for a folder. |

MSNBC: Telemarketers on the ropes (Aug 13 2003 10:56 GMT) - And Joe American mourned... NOT!!! The ATA, which is challenging the list in court, said the national list could eventually cause more than 2 million lost telemarketing jobs. The ATA estimated that telemarketers are responsible for $660 billion in sales. The combined effects of do-not-call lists and the movement of jobs overseas have left the industry ailing. |

Businesses: managing real-time communications critical (Aug 13 2003 10:55 GMT) - Businesses: managing real-time communications is as important as managing real-time processes. Put another way: PR is increasingly an internal exercise because external PR just happens, leaks out of the company via your employees. So, Ross says, trust your employees, teach them and empower them. |
