ZDnet.com.au: Microsoft kills off Outlook Express (Aug 13 2003 14:14 GMT) - This isn't surprising since MS announced no more standalone versions of IE. It's the end of free from the commercial software vendors. But now MS is going to have to convince people to pay for stuff that they got for free. Hotmail should be turning up the heat within a few months to make it uncomfortable for the freeloaders (which includes me). |

ZDNet: Exec: Windows crashes 'not all our fault' (Aug 13 2003 14:14 GMT) - Half are from third-party software. That makes MS responsible for half of the crashes. The company is employing root-cause analysis and event-sequence analysis procedures to scrub out the creation of sloppy code. The result is that individual developers have a high degree of accountability for the code they produce, while the systems and processes associated with code development are rigorously monitored. I'd not heard of this ... (Aug 13 2003 14:13 GMT) - I'd not heard of this before, but some folks I know wandered along to it. To my rather geeky mind, it seemed smart-mobbish (which probably means I'm seeing the things everywhere): get loads of people onto the beach for a party, but instead of having the hassle of hiring a sound system, just get everyone to bring a radio and tune in to a local pirate station... |

Ouch. |
