Road rizzage (Aug 13 2003 16:59 GMT) - Went out for a quick little after-work bike ride Monday night… a 20-mile jaunt down through town and back. While riding down the main drag in Squirrel Hill, I was stopped at a light. The light going the other way turned green, and a cute little old black man, replete in a slightly worn suit and a beret started to cross the street. A young guy turning left nearly hit the man, and then sped off. |

Google's built-in calculator function (Aug 13 2003 16:58 GMT) - To use Google's built-in calculator function, simply enter the expression you'd like evaluated in the search box and hit the Enter key or click the Google Search button. The calculator can evaluate mathematical expressions involving basic arithmetic (5+2*2 or 2^20), more complicated math (sine(30 degrees) or e^(i pi)+1), units of measure and conversions (100 miles in kilometers or 160 pounds * 4000 feet in Calories), and physical constants (1 a.u./c or G*mass of earth/radius of earth^2). You can also experiment with other numbering systems, including hexadecimal and binary. |

Journalism Web Log (Aug 13 2003 16:57 GMT) - I got another e-mail from Michael Bazeley who points to a high school journalism workshop that produced this very cool looking Web log newspaper using Moveable Type. It's somewhat similar to the Newswire site we did last year, but I like the somewhat funky feel to the page. Nice and clean. The neat thing is that they added audio clips to the stories, first using Audblog but now self-served. Some of them are pretty rough, but the concept is pretty cool. |

Calling K-6 Ed Web Loggers (Aug 13 2003 16:57 GMT) - Got an e-mail from Michael Bazeley who is a parent/webmaster at a California elementary school, and he's got a request that I'll post here with his permission: Being a big fan of the blogging movement, I've been scratching my head for some time wondering how blogs could be used by the teachers at our school. I can see how blog tools are useful for secondary school students and teachers. But is there any added value for a second-grade teacher? Any K-6 teachers want to chime in? |

Los Angelos (licentious -- Fair and Balanced news service) We agree 100% that Arnold's long history of adulterous affairs and outright molesting of reluctant women should have no bearing on his election run.
