Weblog survives Radio reinstallation (Aug 13 2003 17:53 GMT) - I did a clean install of Radio UserLand last night to correct some nagging database problems I couldn't resolve, such as nightly scheduled tasks that stopped running and flaky retrieval of news aggregator items. It took about a half hour to update Radio.root completely, register my serial number again, and set my software preferences and theme back up. Afterward, I shut down Radio, copied my old weblogData.root file over the new one in the Data Files folder, then ran the application. |

Intel's WiFi chair (Aug 13 2003 17:50 GMT) - To promote its line of Centrino wireless chips in Britain, Intel has commissioned the Design Laboratory to create a line of WiFi-enabled furniture with wireless access points built-in. The chairs themselves are made of computer cables encased in clear resin (which is meant to make good use of all the cables we'll be throwing away now that the wireless era has arrived) and are intended to be setup in places like train stations and hotel lobbies so people can get online. We're working on having one delivered to Gizmodo HQ. Read... |

Grokster Accuses Record Labels Of Unfair Practices - OFT Says No Evidence (Aug 13 2003 17:50 GMT) - Well, now it seems that just about everyone has declared fair game on attacking back at the music industry. To be honest, they've brought this on themselves with their heavy handed legal moves. The latest is that Grokster has asked the Office of Fair Trading in the UK to investigate the music industry for being a cartel, and violating fair trade laws. The arguments is that they're a cartel because they refuse to talk to him, which seems a little weak. The OFT has so far said they don't see any evidence of unfair competitive behavior, but they have asked Grokster to put together any more material it has on the matter. |
