Wisdom acquired at open-air film festivals (Aug 13 2003 19:24 GMT) - For the past few weeks, there's been the Asian Film Festival organised by the Austrian Film Archive, with an open air cinema at the Augarten park in Vienna. It's also an extremely nice place to sit outside with a few drinks on a warm summer night, so I've been going there on something like a 3-4 times per week basis (sadly, the open air cinema will close on Sunday, even though the festival will continue at another cinema well until late September). I usually go there by bicycle; the film start fairly late and usually end around midnight, and riding a bicycle through the quiet streets of Vienna after midnight sure beats travelling on a stuffy tram or subway train. Okay, so it seems I rode almost 200km on my bike in the last few weeks. |

Time To Get A WiFi Chair? (Aug 13 2003 19:23 GMT) - This past weekend I went to the SF MOMA to check out the latest exhibits. I must admit that I always find the random "modern art chairs" they display to be one of the cooler parts of the museum. Maybe it's because I can at least get my head around sitting in one, and can think about how it might be nice to have such a funky chair in my house. It's a bit tougher to feel the same connection towards a canvas that has been painted entirely white. Now, Intel, in their ongoing quest to co-opt the WiFi brand into their own Centrino offering has spent some of their promotional money on a WiFi chair. |
