Seeing The Stars On Broadway (Aug 15 2003 09:59 GMT) - Seeing The Stars On BroadwaySome lovely stories coming out of the New York blackout of people barbecuing right on 47th street and actually seeing the stars on Broadway -- the REAL stars -- up there -- in the dark night sky. That had to be a rare event in New York City. Sounds like we made it through the night safe and sound. |

XML to RDF transformation (Aug 15 2003 09:59 GMT) - Sjoerd Visscher: Sam Ruby made an XSLT tranformation from Atom to RDF. He said it was hard to do. On the #echo IRC channel I said that XR would probably make it a lot easier. Then Sam asked me to make an XR transformation that would do the same thing. |

Apple tölvur í skólastarfi? (Aug 15 2003 09:59 GMT) - Nú tröllríða PC fartölvu auglýsingar öllum fjölmiðlum, því skólarnir eru að byrja og allir þurfa í dag að eiga þráðlaust nettengda ofurfartölvu því annars eru þeir ekki memm/kúl/etc. (Hvað með foreldra sem hafa ekki efni á svona 150 þúsund króna... |

Bullet point (Aug 15 2003 09:57 GMT) - Firstly, credit to the US Secret Service for having such an un-secret web presence. Even more so that they have a FAQ specially designed to answer kids' questions about their work, including the intriguing information that secret service agents are expected to buy their own sunglasses. One question leaves me cold, though: Why do agents agree to "take a bullet" for the President? The reason we agree to "take a bullet" for the President is based on preserving the ideals on which this country was founded, such as democracy. |

Microsoft Will Dodge MS Blaster Denial of Service Attack [Ian Posner] (Aug 15 2003 09:53 GMT) - "Infected machines will begin a concerted distributed denial of service attack (DDoS) on the domain "windowsupdate.com" this coming Saturday the 16th. However, since the correct domain name used by Windows systems is "windowsupdate. microsoft. com", Microsoft will be able to dodge this bullet simply by changing the IP address for "windowsupdate. |

SVG in Wiki (Aug 15 2003 09:52 GMT) - Danny's hacked together something I've been dreaming about for the past few months: SVG support in a Wiki. My current annoyance with Wikis is that you have to learn a crummy syntax (I've explored zero learning curve wikis in the past) and you can't incorporate visual elements without a huge amount of hassle. This neatly solves the problem by providing an SVG whiteboard. The screenshot looks très cool. |

Sour Note to Microsoft Deal: ... (Aug 15 2003 09:51 GMT) - Sour Note to Microsoft Deal: "Microsoft's latest deal would let Europeans download music on the cheap, but it also buttresses the EU's contention that the American monolith is attempting to dominate the audiovisual field by bundling its own player with its dominant desktop system."
