The aftermarth of the sermon..... (Aug 24 2003 23:58 GMT) - Amazing how drained I feel after giving any talk but most especially a sermon. Satisfied, yes but drained. I really felt that I was carried along this morning which was all the more remarkable given the slightly less than satisfactory (in my view) state of the preparation! There was a positive response though including one convinced that there was much perparation behind it- if only he knew how little there was compared to some of my other talks!Mind you it was a talk that had been a lifetime in the making. |

unmotivated (Aug 24 2003 23:56 GMT) - I want a lazy sunday, but none is had to be found. I have one huge paid project due monday and another site for a friend that for some unknown reason I told him i'd work on it this weekend. I don't feel like doing either. I just want to lay around, watch tv and be a sloth. If I became motivated enough I'd run down to the mall and return a shirt I bought. |

“Unilateral" by Lance Knobel from Davos Newbies. (Aug 24 2003 23:55 GMT) - « West Africa has vast numbers of subsistence cotton farmers, struggling to keep their families alive with a couple of acres, a wooden plough and an ox. The US has 25,000 cotton farmers with vast farms and all the modern technology. You'd think that explains why west Africans are uncompetitive. In fact, it costs 23 cents to grow a pound of cotton in west Africa and 82 cents to grow it in the US. |

RSS with a hands on ... (Aug 24 2003 23:53 GMT) - RSS with a hands on approach. Sun recently developed a RSS Utilities Package that is geared towards non-technical editors of web sites that use RSS for aggregating news content. The goal behind this project according to Sun Microsystems was to simplify the use of RSS, thus making syndication more viable in the long run. The results of this project were a set of custom JSP tags and a flexible RSS Parser. The RSS Utilities page describes everything from installation to using the tag library properly. |

A little better today (Aug 24 2003 23:52 GMT) - Well, I am back, and I am happy to say I did fairly well today at the yard sale, selling a motherboard, two processors, and 2 NIC's for a total of $20. This means I have now made enough to cover all the costs of the payment for Jim, and my landlord will only be pissed I am going to be 6 days late on half my rent, instead of pissed I am missing more than half. Not great, but not bad. My parents also decided they will be doing it next weekend as well, but only Friday and Saturday. Therefore, email me if you want to know where you can get some computer stuff and books for cheap, and I will toss you the address. |

Camp 18 (Aug 24 2003 23:51 GMT) - No trip from Portland to the Oregon Coast is complete without a stop at Camp 18. No, really. It took some convincing to get the missus to stop the first time, but now all I have to do is mention having breakfast at the Camp, and she's practically in the car. Gigantic plates of good old American Comfort Food. Flapjacks piled high enough you want to measure them in feet, rashers of bacon, and 2/3lb. |

Zombie Infection Simulation v2 (Aug 24 2003 23:51 GMT) - Watch with glee as your randomly-generated, teeming metropolis of pink dots (humans) is overrun by the slow-moving grey dots (zombies). When the zombies reach critical mass, press z to generate a new city, or let Zombietown usher in a new era of peace, a city free from undead segregation and "life bias." Zombie Infection Simulation is built with Processing, an IDE/scripting language/overlay that runs atop java. The mission is basically to introduce the idea of electronic art to programmers, while simultaneously introducing the basic tenets of programming to electronic artists. Since it lives atop java, experienced coders can dig as deep as they wish, but the simple syntax allows for a complexity that defies the programming depth of the artist. |

"Excuse Me, Hitler, But Is Your Refrigerator Running?" (Aug 24 2003 23:51 GMT) - "Because if it is, it probably runs like you, very homosexually." (thanks Family Guy!) Sometimes it's refreshing to know that Americans don't have the market cornered on crackpots. Over in Germany, "researchers" comb an isolated valley looking for, amongst other things, Hitler's nuclear bombs, a cave full of hundreds of tanks and planes, the Third Reich's secret UFO research, and a direct line to Adolf himself. Stade also believes that the Fuhrer's telephone system inside the tunnel network is still connected to the public telephone system. |

Diary Of A Future Tweezer Mule (Aug 24 2003 23:51 GMT) - Had my leg checked out again, and all seems to be healing well. Every time I see my doctor, he tells me just a wee bit more about how badly I broke my leg. Staring up at him in the emergency room, "We're going to have to put a couple screws in your leg, chief. Here, here, and here." After surgery, "We put a couple screws in, and a plate to hold one of your bones together. |
