A few more details about Dell's Axim X3 Pocket PC (Sep 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - Courtesy of an FCC filing, a few more details have emerged on Dell's new Axim X3 Pocket PCs, details that the company couldn't be bothered to tell anyone when their new line of handhelds was announced last week. The new X3's will be lighter, shorter, and thinner than the old Axim X5's, have 3.5-inch, 16-bit color touch screens, jog-wheels, removable rechargeable batteries, and come in three versions: a 300MHz device, a 400MHz device with 64MB of RAM, and a 400MHz device with 64MB of RAM and built-in WiFi. What's still not clear is whether the X3's SD card slot will support SDIO expansion cards or not. |

Baen Free Library (Sep 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - You know, I hadn't thought to link to this before, mainly because I thought it was something that surely everyone knew about already -- but it came up in conversation with a friend, and I realized that some of you might not be familiar with it. So: In a time when most copyright holders are trying to figure out how to protect their works from the evil slavering hordes of the Internet, SF publisher Baen has instead thrown their doors open and established the Baen Free Library -- a place where their authors may voluntarily make their novels available for free download, in a variety of formats. The Librarian writes: Losses any author suffers from piracy are almost certainly offset by the additional publicity which, in practice, any kind of free copies of a book usually engender. |

Elementary. (Sep 30 2003 17:58 GMT) - Completely stuck for something to write about? Try poking around here: Story Elements is a floating database of characters, objects, themes and places that anyone can contribute to, and anyone can use in an essay, short story, novel - whatever. Contributors give anyone else the right to use their creations. If you do find this useful, and use something from the database, we'd love to know. |
