Nonviolence or hypocracy? (Oct 01 2003 16:51 GMT) - Now I'm not going to get into what I think of the Dalai Lama, but I have always respected the fact that he so adamantly believes in nonviolence. I was apalled that the NYT would actually suggest (well outright say) that he advocated violence as a responce to terrorism, but since then a few things have come to my attention.Like, for example, the fact that he praised the US aproach to the bombing of Afghanistan as "civilized"!!! What is that?!?!?! Or that... |

BloggerCon Tidbits (Oct 01 2003 16:49 GMT) - Friday Night Party, 7PM, Cambridge. Sponsored by Adam Curry and Dave Winer (me). We couldn't get a big company to sponsor a party without some awful strings attached, so Adam and I are splitting the tab personally on the Friday night party at The Hong Kong restaurant in the middle of Harvard Square. I've not been there myself, but I hear that it's a orgy of drunken college students. We'll be upstairs, schmoozing and trading business cards. |

[Languages] And Introducing Dot-Scheme (Oct 01 2003 16:49 GMT) - Here I went and talked about SICP and Lisp for .NET and almost forgot to mention dot-scheme, a PLT Scheme extension that lets PLT Scheme access the Microsoft .NET Framework. If you want to actually play with SICP code, you will probably want these free gifts, also! |

Martin Little has posted an ... (Oct 01 2003 16:48 GMT) - Martin Little has posted an excellent critique (and the first I've seen online) of 3s content services onto Mobitopia. Personally, rather than having to pay small microcharges for specific pieces of content (e.g. weather), I reckon they should have a low-budget flat-rate "content pack" which includes all the stuff you'd expect for free... in much the same way that cable TV operators have a basic "channel pack" which is worthwhile yet affordable. |
