One small victory, especially for Mac users (Oct 01 2003 18:58 GMT) - Just about three weeks ago, Sarah Ward, 65-year-old educator, artist, and grandmother, received notice that she was getting sued by the RIAA. Well, apparently, the RIAA came to their senses and dropped the suit. Why, you ask? The seven record labels sued Ward solely on the basis of "screen shots" from the KaZaA network and information obtained from a controversial subpoena issued to Comcast, Ward's Internet service provider, under the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Here's the thing: |

The Condition. Or 'Confession d'un malade imaginaire...' (Oct 01 2003 18:58 GMT) - I've been waiting long enough for a diagnosis to the Condition, but now there is one, of sorts, it doesn't make it any the more palatable. Nor does the fact that it's pretty much what I'd begun to fear it was even before last Thursday's morning on and off the X-ray slab in the most modern hospital I've ever seen in my life. Much of Monday I spent going from one lab to another in different places, collecting all the outstanding results of September's tests. Yesterday, I dumped the lot on bloghero Yang's desk. Then I had to go into AFP and tell the Desk Chief that it looks pretty much as if I've been off work since early May with nothing worse than a psychosomatic case of burnout and no apparent physical explanation for the symptoms. |

A Rat's Ass? (Oct 01 2003 18:58 GMT) - Someone I greatly respect once admitted, “I don’t give a rat’s ass about the sick.” That’s pretty much the truth for me; only for me, it is about ‘the poor,’ ‘the hurting,’ and ‘the hungry.’ This is what I call being brutally honest—and it hurts—but I hope it becomes the first steps toward a change in my heart and life. Confessions of a Guilty Bystander I really like the way Joel writes here. |

Got NewsGator, but I don't like it. (Oct 01 2003 18:56 GMT) - NewsGator is a plug-in for Microsoft Outlook that downloads RSS news feeds in Outlook. I use Outlook 2003 almost constantly, and I've read about a lot of other people finding NewsGator useful, so I gave it a try. This is the first RSS news aggregator I've used. Conclusion... I like the concept. |
