UNLIBERATABLE GALS (Oct 01 2003 18:45 GMT) - An astonishing 70 percent of Iraqis say they want women to follow more traditional or conservative roles compared with life under Saddam Hussein's rule, according to a poll set to be released today. The feeling is almost evenly shared between the sexes - with 72 percent of men and 67 percent of women agreeing Iraqi women should adopt more traditional roles than before the U.S.-led invasion, according to the Gallup survey. A mere 15 percent of Iraqis said women should enjoy more freedom, while 14 percent said they believe women should enjoy the same amount of freedom as in the years before the invasion. |
