Blogging Plame As the Plame ... (Oct 01 2003 18:45 GMT) - Blogging Plame As the Plame affair rolls forward, we are seeing an interesting split in the blogosphere -- unsurprisingly, along liberal/conservative lines. You can find almost round-the-clock updates and thoughtful commentary from Josh Marshall (the independent journalist) and Brad DeLong (the economist and former D.C. insider). DeLong leads the way in reminding us that this story first broke over the summer, that Bush had many weeks to pursue this, and in fact, rather than being eager to find out who leaked Plame's CIA status, he has done nothing to find that out, and instead waited until the CIA forced his hand: |

Input Validation is Important (Oct 01 2003 18:44 GMT) - On Monday, someone tested if my contact form can be used to send (presumably SPAM) mail to arbitrary addresses. The attacker thought that the form data might be passed as is to the "mail" program, so he tried to include newlines and additional e-mail headers in the form fields to trick my script into sending the mail to arbitrary addresses. Of course, it didn't work because I have done my homework and have some stringent input validation function in place. |

New Novak column (Oct 01 2003 18:44 GMT) - Bob Novak's Column Oct. 1: I had thought I never again would write about retired diplomat Joseph Wilson's CIA-employee wife, but feel constrained to do so now that repercussions of my July 14 column have reached the front pages of major newspapers and led off network news broadcasts. My role and the role of the Bush White House have been distorted and need explanation. ed: |

Big News #1: It begins.... (Oct 01 2003 18:44 GMT) - Most of you that know me know that I have been hard at work over the past two years now, working on my vision for technology. I've been talking to many people over the last two years, and setting my ideas down on paper. I waited a full year before bringing my best friend on board, and we have been working very hard over the past year to create what we now feel is a truly great vision for .NET. This month coincides with the one-year anniversary of me bringing him on. |

Massachusetts In Heart of New Revolution (Oct 01 2003 18:43 GMT) - Apparently, the good citizens of Massachusetts are embroiled in yet another revolution: this time, a war of words over a recent decision to explore shifting the commonwealth's software to more open-source offerings. The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste has fired a volley denouncing such plans, to which Eric Raymond has responded with a few shots of his own. Articles within. |

SQL Replication Consternation (Oct 01 2003 18:43 GMT) - We've been experimenting with a proof-of-concept application using the .Net Compact Framework; right now, we're just exploring replicating data between a mobile PocketPC (with SQLServerCE) and a SqlServer. Plain vanilla sort of stuff. It was working well despite the errors (typos and misplaced parenthesis) in the MSDN “QuickStart†tutorials, but I got into true trouble when I exported the database and moved it to another server for some other development work we were doing. |

You Have The Right To Remain Stupid (Oct 01 2003 18:42 GMT) - You have the right to remain stupid, apparently: As a hearing got under way on various motions, prosecutors said that they would not use any material elicited from Muhammad in the 90 minutes before he was advised of his Miranda rights after his arrest Oct. 24. A Maryland detective, James Drewry, testified most of the early questioning dealt with background issues. I bet the first legal issue any kid learns is " |
