Leluja +1 (Oct 01 2003 19:21 GMT) - Olen nyt virallisesti taas motoristi. Motorispyöriä on ollut ennenkin, muttei vähään aikaan. Tänään olen kuitenkin päässyt aikaisemmin mainitsemani latolöydön onnelliseksi omistajaksi ja kaasusormia kutittaisi jo kovasti. Vuosimalliksikin tarkentui 1980 ja konekooksi 175 kuutiota. Kovin seksikäshän pyörä ei ole. |

Subverting Amazon's Ranking System For Fun And For Profit (Oct 01 2003 19:20 GMT) - Earlier this week I posted a story about how authors are increasingly paying attention to their Amazon sales ranking. In the comments it was pointed out that authors, realizing how much attention this gets, are starting to "game" the system, and pointed to a request from Bruce Schneier to specifically boost his book sales on a particular day. It appears he's not the only one. Publisher's Weekly has the story of an author who paid the owner of a huge mailing list of folks looking for info on "self-help" books to send out an email blast pitching the book, with a special offer to get more "free" writings from the same author - but only if they bought the book on September 24th. Apparently, in that one day, the book's sales rankings shot up from #900,000 to #1. |

The Joe Schmo Show (Oct 01 2003 19:20 GMT) - It's a "reality" show much like any other, the illegitimate love child of The Real World and Survivor. And it's the best show on TV. |

Spammers Now Relaying via SMTP AUTH (Oct 01 2003 19:19 GMT) - Spam: A nasty new development -- spammers are now exploiting closed relays to send spam, by brute-force attacking their SMTP AUTH interfaces. SMTP AUTH is a system used to allow legitimate mail server users to send outgoing mail securely, by authenticating them first. ( sample documentation here.) This ROKSO file indicates one spammer's modus operandi: |
