Gungahlin - Demand your broadband (Oct 02 2003 05:51 GMT) - Gungahlinistas have a lot to whinge about, which could explain why they're so good at it (although not so good as O'Connorites and Arandanettes or they'd have had their road 5 years earlier). One of the things they complain about most is a lack of high speed internet connection in Gungahlin, making them second class citizens as much in nerd-world as they are in the real world. They will be pleased to see this media release from Telstra in which the monster telco announces that future ADSL rollout will be "by demand". They can demand their broadband at http://www. |

The Third and Final Round will take place at Duntroon on Monday 06-OCT-03 (public holiday remember) with Australia kicking off at 3.30pm. For those going "huh", the Parliaments of the rugby playing world have sent members on an enourous junket to play a tournament prior to kick off in the real world cup. |

Mad Bombers Strike Again - Chapman Salvo's Bin (Oct 02 2003 05:51 GMT) - Canberra's mad bombers have continued their relentless campaign, this time striking a charity bin (a red one so that'd be the salvos?) in Chapman. Debris field out to 100m so a decent size bomb. Murdoch's News have the story here. Someone should check if Kate Carnell has an alibi, remember folks, it's all good fun 'till someone loses an eye. |

Lauren Jackson given Keys to the City (Oct 02 2003 05:51 GMT) - No links yet but Lauren Jackson is being given the Keys to the City this morning, becoming (I'm told) the first woman to get them in her own right. Perhaps not as prestigious as the Johnboy "Best Legs in Hot-Pants" prize she already holds, but something to treasure nonetheless. I've actually been invited to a corporate box for the Capitals game on Saturday so expect more in this theme. |

Things I could add or change... any thoughts? (Oct 02 2003 05:50 GMT) - OK, so in terms of this site I'm thinking about: Whether the font is too small, should I change it? Putting a graphic at the top (I've got some fun ideas and it's only 14k so far)? Introducing archives by month? Introducing a 'recent posts' thing? |

Everybody here works on Word (Oct 02 2003 05:47 GMT) - I was having a lunchtime conversation with one of my teammates and we were reminiscing about previous jobs, experiences in school, and the like. I lamented that while pretty much everbody recognizes the name "Microsoft", it's often difficult to describe what it is I do at Microsoft. (Generally, I boil my job down to "writing software to test software for writing software," at which point my questioner's eyes glaze over and we begin to discuss the weather. "Quite nice," we generally agree.) (I should point out that my parents have a good idea of what it is that I do, even if I often don't. |

Probe called offshoot of White House rifts (Oct 02 2003 05:45 GMT) - So, are we going to have an intelligence agency that only produces the reports that the Administration wants to hear, or will we maintain one with the independence to make the more accurate reports possible? Which one makes you feel safer? Plame is an operations officer in the Counter-Proliferation Division of the Directorate of Operations.
