A's and Topics (Oct 02 2003 06:58 GMT) - Jason, the topic keywords for the A's are "oakland a's athletics" and currently the engine requires two of those keywords to pick up on the topic, which it didn't for your last post. I suppose I could just require one of them, but we'd probably dillute the topic with occasional posts on Oakland or athletics. So just append " |

Helpline Comment (23855) (Oct 02 2003 06:56 GMT) - Haha! - little Egghead - I bet that 386 with win '95 is a real speed demon! lol. No- I'm not laughing at you - I'm laughing because my first computer was similar. It was a Tandy 386 16MHz, 4 MB RAM, 80 MB HDD, a 2400bps Racal-Vadic external modem and a 1x CD-ROM that was controlled by the Tandy sound card. |

Kyocera kills the Kurv (Oct 02 2003 06:56 GMT) - About six months ago Kyocera was showing off a phone called the Kurv, which came with a digital camera, an MP3 player, a built-in FM radio, and most importantly, these swappable "Smart Skin" faceplates that included graphics, ringtones, and games in them. The idea was that you could easily custom the inside as well as the outside of your phone just by changing the faceplate. At the time we thought it wasn't such a bad idea, but what we found amusing was Kyocera's decision to introduce the Kurv to the public with a Smart Skin featuring Diane and Elaine Klimaszewski, those scantily-clad blonde twins from the Coors Light commercials. We poked a little fun at Kyocera for their choice, something which a couple of days later sparked an angry missive from Don McGuire, Kyocera's Vice President for Global Marketing, who accused us of being "jaded." Which of course we are,... |

Linux: Benchmarking Scheduling Latency (Oct 02 2003 06:54 GMT) - Rick Lindsley recently uploaded some interesting comparisons of scheduler latency between 2.6.0-test5 [story], -test5-mm3 [story], -test6 [story], and -test6-mm1 [story] with four different benchmarks. The benchmarks used were Volanomark, SPECjbb, SPECdets, and the Kernbench kernel compilation scripts. His summmary looks at how performance has changed, how scheduler behavior has changed, and how these changes affect the different benchmarking tools used. |

Plame operative or desk ... (Oct 02 2003 06:54 GMT) - Plame operative or desk spy? Columnist Robert Novak has argued that Valerie Plame was a CIA analyst, not an operative or spy, so revealing her name didn't do any real damage. CalPundit has summarised the details that have been made public so far, and they clearly point in the opposite direction. So was Valerie Plame just an agency desk jockey whose identity was no big deal? |
