Global Fund Offers $18 M to Fight HIV/Aids (Oct 02 2003 06:37 GMT) - The Global Fund to Fight Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis is to provide US$18 million to non-governmental organizations and other groups in Coted'Ivoire for activities in the field of HIV/AIDS, under an agreement betweenthe fund and the Ivorian government health ministry. |

Borno Wants Hand-Over of Lake Chad Areas Delayed (Oct 02 2003 06:37 GMT) - As Nigeria prepares to hand over the control of 33 villages on the LakeChad Basin to the Republic of Cameroon in January 2004 following thejudgement of the world court on the border dispute between the twocountries, the government of Borno State, from where the villages are to beceded to Cameroon, has called on the UN-led Cameroon-Nigeria mixedcommission to make the transfer of authority process "gradual rather thansudden and sporadic." |

Legislators Order Expired Bombs Destroyed (Oct 02 2003 06:37 GMT) - The House of Representatives has directed the Minister of Defence, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to order the immediate detonation of expired bombs at the Tactical Air Command headquarters of the Nigeria Air Force in Makurdi. The directive was made in a bid to avert catastrophe of bomb explosions at the base. The legislators also summoned the minister to appear before its committee on defence to explain the state of military armoury dumps across the country. |
