Don't fuck with Mr. Zero (Oct 02 2003 12:52 GMT) - I'm revolted to know that Rush Limbaugh is in my town today. Worse yet, he's going to be speaking. Twice. First at the convention center as some sort of broadcasters convention keynote speaker, and then at some sort of radio lunch at the Union League. He's been here since last night, and there's a palpable chill to the air. |

What should I do about spam in comments? (Oct 02 2003 12:49 GMT) - Spam, mostly viagra and weight loss pills, but some porn, too, is showing up in comments. Should I just let it happen or shut down comments? It's too much hassle to delete them. It seems like a kind of defeat to just live with it and accept it, and it seems like a more sour defeat to shut off comments, and I know from two day's experienc that I don't want to spend one minute more deleting them. Readers, I'd like to know your opinion. |

(Via Freegorifero)A show is in progress, the DJs taking turns to mix records together and exchange banter in a cockney pirate patois. The music veers from chunky hip hop to saccharine R&B - like most contemporary pirates, Xtreme champions "urban" sounds, a term that originated as a euphemism for black music. When not DJ-ing, they fiddle with their mobile phones: texting, reading texts, taking calls. |

Collective Action Feels Good? (Oct 02 2003 12:49 GMT) - Dr John Drury, Lecturer in Social Psychology at the University of Sussex, recently led a research project that claims to have discovered that participation in forms of collective action can make people feel good. The Sussex study also involved Dr Chris Cocking and three Social Psychology students: Joseph Beale, Charlotte Hanson and Faye Rapley. "Many published activist accounts refer to feelings of encouragement and confidence emerging from experiences of collective action," says John. "But it is not always clear how and why such empowerment occurs, so we aimed to explain what factors within a collective action event contribute most to such feelings. |
