Maturity makes Linux less of a gamble for the enterprise (Oct 02 2003 16:31 GMT) - More enterprises have been less reticent to gamble on Linux during the last 18 months. Once solely a perimeter infrastructure play, Linux is now finding its way onto mission-critical database transaction servers, high-performance computing clusters and even the desktop. |

Pocket Loox 610 Gains FCC Approval (Oct 02 2003 16:30 GMT) - Well, it looks like the next-gen Pocket Loox is more and more likely going to hit the market: Duncan, over at FirstLoox, has found that the FCC has now approved the device (it's rumored there'll be versions with BT and with both BT and WLAN). The specs apparently match what was reported on before; let's just hope that Fujitsu actually brings it to the US market this time. |

Clueless (Oct 02 2003 16:28 GMT) - I was reading this Washington Post horror story of yet another dot-com debacle (Cidera), and this quote really irritated me: "Back in 1997, the Internet was growing and we all bought into the lie," recalled Mohney, the company's former marketing manager, as he stood outside the office, gazing at the idle satellite dishes that had been its jewels. "We all thought the Internet would continue growing ad infinitum." They really don't get it, and probably never did. It's not that the Internet "stopped growing", whatever that's supposed to mean. |
