Racing down the crookedest street in the world (Oct 02 2003 23:22 GMT) - BYOBW (Bring Your Own Big Wheels). This new film [25MB, QuickTime] documents the 3rd annual Bring Your Own Big Wheel race, in which a bunch of crazed fools raced headlong down San Francisco's Lombard Street (aka: the crookedest street in the world) on Big Wheels. Good drunk fun! Here are some pics for the bandwidth-challenged. |

Timed perfectly just as the ... (Oct 02 2003 23:20 GMT) - Timed perfectly just as the last strains of the national anthem dissolved into overlapping echoes, two Navy F18 jets thundered above the Coliseum, so close above Mt. Davis that those of us standing there instinctively ducked and, long after they had vanished into specks above the Bay we were still buzzing about it. |

Neil Young bootlegs (Oct 02 2003 23:20 GMT) - Chris' Neil Young bootlegs.Another list from Chris, and this one is an amazing and seemingly comprehensive list of 94 (!) links. I bet that entry of his will generate a lot of hits over time, and starting very soon at that, due mostly to it getting found by Google and other search engines. |

wish list? - perhaps (Oct 02 2003 23:20 GMT) - Pepe's wish list? - perhaps. If 'self-absorbed daydreaming' needs to be done, then why not about books? In the realm of fantasizing, that's one of the nobler topics. And Pepe, I'm sure my mom would be pleased to consider you and yours a part of our family. |

things I ought/want to be doing (Oct 02 2003 23:20 GMT) - Lynn's things I ought/want to be doing.Lynn, an admirable new year's resolution list which everyone would do well to aspire to! (But maybe replacing the banjo with one's favorite musical instrument.) Also, Kass responded to your inquiry about the emoticon. I've always loved the ecovative sweatdrop signifier, the lowly semicolon. |

Helpline Comment (23864) (Oct 02 2003 23:20 GMT) - Sorry for digressing, but I just spotted the worst looking eBay listing ever I was doing some research on prices on some old calculators & came across the eBay listing in the link above - worth looking at jst to see how bad it is My eyes are still googly from looking at it I hate eBay ads like those almost as much as I hate ones with !L@@K! in the title If you list a good item, it'll sell - no amount of vulgar graphics or grabbing titles will make any diference, in fact they'll probably discourage buyers (Comment references cgi. ebay. co. |

Travelling again (Oct 02 2003 23:19 GMT) - Tomorrow evening I hit the road again for Ethiopia. I'm going to be in Addis Ababa exclusively for about a week. Internet connectivity is supposed to be pretty poor in the country, so I don't know how regularly I'll be able to post. I'll be staying at the Sheraton, and if anyone has a business centre, I'm sure it's the Sheraton. As usual, I'm taking the camera along and will try to put up a picture or two here or there when I can. |

Are the israelis really this dumb? (Oct 02 2003 23:18 GMT) - JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel unveiled plans Thursday to build more than 600 new homes in Jewish settlements, drawing fresh international and Palestinian condemnation a day after it approved expanding its West Bank separation barrier. I guess they are. First... |

i'm anti-arnold (Oct 02 2003 23:18 GMT) - i don't want arnold schwarzenegger to be governor of california (because he seems to have a history of abusing his power), but i also don't want to support moveon's campaign against him, because they haven't provided me with enough information for me to know if i support what they'll say. i certainly don't support their assertion that the recall vote "is an attack on American democracy", and if that's going to be included in the anti-arnold ad, i don't want to support that. so instead i'm posting this to publicize that i don't like arnold. |

Toll Collect & a MentalStateCalledFlow (Oct 02 2003 23:15 GMT) - Probably I suffer from TooMuchCynicismTooEarly, but it almost brings me into a MentalStateCalledFlow to imagine the internal details of the project. Sehr cool. (Oder doch nicht? |
