Ig Nobel Awards Announced (Oct 03 2003 14:59 GMT) - Ananova has the story: The Ig Nobel awards, a spoof of the Nobel Awards, have been presented in the US. The annual awards, for people whose achievements "cannot or should not be reproduced," were presented at a spoof ceremony at Harvard University. They are handed out by the science/humour magazine, Annals of Improbable Research, to real academics and others whose work might strike people's funny bones. |

Touching The Universe - In Braille (Oct 03 2003 14:59 GMT) - At first, I had the same thought that many other people probably did when they first heard about this: What good is an astronomy picture book in Braille? But the more I thought about it, the more sense it made to me. Helen Keller grew up just down the road from where I live and she's a constant reminder about the triumph of the human mind over sensory limitations. I've always been facinated by how she was able to expand the horizons of her awareness to include so very much. |

Radio Host Tells of Incident With Actor (Oct 03 2003 14:59 GMT) - A well-known nationally syndicated radio host on Thursday publicly described being groped and propositioned by Arnold Schwarzenegger more than 20 years ago, when she was starting in the business and he was promoting his film "Pumping Iron." Joy Browne, a psychologist whose advice program is syndicated to nearly 200 stations nationwide, described on the radio an encounter with Schwarzenegger that took place during an interview about the documentary, which was released in 1977. Schwarzenegger fondled her legs under the table during the interview, she said. Then, she said, he left his Gold American Express card in the studio and insisted that Browne personally return it to his hotel room. According to Browne, who was in her late 20s at the time, she took her young daughter along to return the credit card. |
