Full of sound and fury (Oct 03 2003 21:58 GMT) - It's been pretty clear for months that somebody from the White House phoned Robert Novak with Valerie Plame's identity. So why is the Justice Department asking State and Defense department employees to turn over phone logs, while phone logs are not in the list given to White House staffers? [via corrente] Talk about obfuscation -- take what should be a very small investigation and expand it to include three major government departments... It sounds like a great way of giving the appearance of effectiveness without actually accomplishing the stated goal. And speaking of deceptive misinformation, get a load of this: |

New Media, 1740-1915 (Oct 03 2003 21:57 GMT) - New media is not something that just happens to us. At every technological turn, society and commerce have adopted, feared and profited from more innovative forms of media. With that in mind, MIT has just published (and we've ordered) New Media, 1740-1915. We stumbled upon this book via a excellent and provocative post at Test, which finds parallels between the appropriation and distribution behaviors of early scrapbookers and modern day bloggers. |

Free Arianna (Oct 03 2003 21:56 GMT) - I’m thinking of printing a new T-shirt-Free Arianna-to go on the rack next to the Martha Stewart version. That society sets a double standard for power and gender is nothing new, but recently I’ve experienced it up close and personal and it’s pretty disturbing. |

Welcome to the newly designed EdTechPost (Oct 03 2003 21:56 GMT) - There's still lots to do, but for a number of reasons I needed to finally get this out the door today. It may not look that different, but to get this going I've: moved from using Radio as my blogging tool to using MoveableType changed web hosts, and got myself a brand-spanking new URL redesigned the site, both visually and through the use of CSS There's still some kinks to work out in the style sheet implementations (I hadn't quite realized how truly inconsistent the interpretation of "standards" is still across browsers) so please be patient. If you do notice anything going truly squirrelly for you, please let me know. There's also still a good deal of work to try and re-direct traffic from the old site to here, but from here on I will be publishing strictly to this server/this url/this RSS feed. |
