Stealing Sheep: The Church's Hidden Problems of Transfer Growth (Oct 05 2003 04:30 GMT) - But what does the rise of megachurches and the larger Church Growth phenomenon mean? The number of Americans identifying themselves as evangelical Christians has risen in recent years, which suggests that perhaps Church Growth is successful in reaching the lost. But on the other hand, other studies which find that the total number of Christians in America has declined in recent years suggests that Church Growth isn't really reaching that many new people, but rather just causing present Christi ... |

Stories of Manhood: Journeys into the Hidden Hearts of Men (Oct 05 2003 04:30 GMT) - So today, I'm in a bookshop and reading "Stories of Manhood" by the same author. I can remember reading in his book that the leading cause of death among men between 12 and 60 is self inflicted death. Four times as many men as women commit suicide. I can recall pondering that fact when I was on the 14th floor balcony of a Hong Kong apartm ... |

Silent Coup: The Removal of a President (Oct 05 2003 04:30 GMT) - More disturbing parallels with Roman Empire file US creeping towards military coup? [u]The Roman republic, however, failed to adjust to the unintended consequences of its imperialism, leading to a drastic alteration in its form of government. The militarism that inescapably accompanied Rome's imperial projects slowly undermined its constitution as well as the very considerable political and human rights its citizens enjoyed. The American republic, of course, has not yet collapsed; it is just un ... |

Another Paper Review (Oct 05 2003 04:25 GMT) - Epson 'Photo Quality Glossy Film' (SO41107) A6 sized (105x148mm 4.1x5.8") paper described 'Durable, bright white film sheets' 'Use for photographs' 'For brilliant Photo Quality color with the highest gloss finish' 'Use with EPSON 720/1440 dpi print mode' Results were quite good I thought. Much less bronzing than on the shitty Epson 'Photo Paper'. The instructions advise selecting 'Photo Quality Glossy Film' and if that Media Type is not available, 'High Quality Glossy Paper. |

Quicksilver (Oct 05 2003 04:25 GMT) - ...That we need is a systematic alphabet--made so that the shapes of the characters themselves provide full information as to how they are pronounced." These words filled Daniel with a foreboding that turned out to be full justified: by the time the sun rose, they had fetched the dead man from the gaol, bought him back out to the cottage, and carefully cut his head off. Charles Comstock was rousted from bed and ordered to dissect the corpse, as a lesson in anatomy (and as a way of getting rid of it). Meanwhile, Hooke and Wilkins connected the head's wind-pipe to a large set of fireplace-bellows, so that they could blow air through the voice-box. |
