- From my experience with programming with DSP is that you can write processor specific code to run faster. 387 virtual code will run slower than real floating point instructions. Atleast with the open source linux we can expand and understand what the OS is doing, letting us improve and be creative. MS Windows running it's VB scripts and bloated API's does have some bottlenecks. Writing CPU specific instructions for speed is evident in that slower MAC's can execute Adobe Paint Shop procedures faster, since the Motorola Power PC has Paint Shop architecture inside to run such code. |
