Voting in the California Election (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - I've just returned from voting in today's California special election. There was a line, and there is never a line when I've voted here. I've been away from this state the past five days, and seeing the recall from an... |

Contract Enforcement and SOA (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - Clemens blogs about the importance of checking for post-conditions as well pre-conditions. While I agree that ensuring post-condition guarantees is an often ignored part of many service implementations that I've seen in the wild, I don't know if it's more |

DIRTY TRICKS AT THE LA ... (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - DIRTY TRICKS AT THE LA TIMES?. The LA Weekly, David to the LA Times' Goliath, has done some digging, and apparently the Times has not been entirely forthcoming about the background and handling of its last-minute stories about Schwarzenegger's alleged groping and harassment history. The Weekly, by the way, is an unabashedly liberal paper in its general outlook, but they also obviously know a story when they see one. From one LA Weekly story: The L. |

New Unity Partnership: Five Union Presidents Launch Bid to 'Revolutionize' AFL-CIO (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - These articles are comprehensive and pull no punches. I'm not sure if I can add anything to what they say.On a practical level, though, I think a little conflict within the labor unions may be a good thing right now, even if you don't think either "side" fully represents what you are looking for. It still shakes some pork-choppers out of complacency.I thought the suggestion of UNITE breathing down the neck of the UFCW in retail was particularly i... |

Thoughts on Star Wars (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - Jaquandor had some thoughts on Attack of the Clones:I watched Attack of the Clones the other night, and no, I have not come round to the prevailing opinion that it's a giant suckfest. In fact, I am more resolute than ever in my belief that I'm right, that |

Master and Student (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - While I'm apologizing, I've had some fun with the whole Billy Beane-Theo Epstein master/student metaphor. I guess I should complete it: Darth Vader: I've been waiting for you Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. |

More evidence that people everywhere suck. (Oct 07 2003 16:32 GMT) - This poor dog had his mouth duct taped closed and couldn't eat, drink or bark for help. After he was rescued he was so close to death they could only name him and put him to sleep. It's things like this that make me think I could be pro-death penalty after all. |

The Board Member's Guide to Strategic Planning : A Practical Approach to Strengthening Nonprofit Organizations (Oct 07 2003 16:30 GMT) - In "The Board Member's Guide to Strategic Planning: A Practical Approach to Strengthening NonProfit Organizations" (1997), Fisher Howe provides a short, practical guide to strategic planning for members of the board of a nonprofit organization. He maintains that strategic planning is inherently a function of the board, not management and staff, and requires a systematic approach. In this book, he describes his recommended process and provides examples from boards on which he has served. (Read ... |

Just Give Me the Damn Ball!: The Fast Times and Hard Knocks of an NFL Rookie (Oct 07 2003 16:30 GMT) - OK, I have despised Keyshawn Johnson since he played for the NY Jets. The Jets were my "adopted" team while I lived in NYC, and it was hard for me to root for them while this prima donna strutted around, shooting off his mouth, and doing exactly 0 to help the team while continuously bashing his teammates. Surely you remember his epic auto-biography - "Just give me the damn ball", right?? |

The Disney Treasures (Oct 07 2003 16:30 GMT) - I had a great birthday yesterday. Actually, it was more like unbelievable. There were one or two cards that I got that upset me a little, but, that didn't dampen my day for long, especially not when I have such great people who surround and care about me. Dorky grins and all, I feel like using horrible English and saying, "I is so happy." I had so much fun and, not to be too materialistic (*scoff*), I got great stuff to boot! |
