Manipulating Fixed-Width Integer Data Types (Oct 07 2003 23:49 GMT) - There are many programming situations in which integer size matters. For example, in the process of manipulating memory-mapped I/O registers, embedded programmers who use C or C++ often require fixed-size integer data types that aren't provided by the language standards. Michael Barr takes a new look at this old problem, and he includes a final solution to the issue of naming fixed-width integer data types. Michael is the author of Programming Embedded Systems in C and C++. |

[PDC] Sessions Browser (Oct 07 2003 23:48 GMT) - Interesting - Paolo Marcucci is apparently writing a C# app to help with his Sessions 'experience' called the PDC Sessions Browser. I wonder if he will share? It will certainly be interesting to see how he is going to get the data in the app - screenscaping the Search Sessions site? Joe Duffy posted a comment asking if there would be any loaner PocketPC devices at the PDC - anyone know? |

System Architecture (Oct 07 2003 23:47 GMT) - Well, Jason Moore asked me about the overall architecture and business analysis that form the base of an enterprise-class application like PDC Session Browser. I thought about posting the UML, the use cases, the swimlanes... but in the end I had to check in my development folder and I found this lonely Doc1.doc, converted from Pocket Word. I'll present it to you gentle audience, in all it's Agile glory: |

Blogger News Item (Oct 07 2003 23:45 GMT) - I have been monitoring CNN all day on the off chance they might offer some nugget of news on the California recall, and I'm reminded what a piece of shit operation they're running there. No wonder they're getting trounced by a fake-news upstart like FauxNews. I've barely heard any news all day, but I sure have seen a parade of idiots acting cute. And I'm just getting my first look at their hot new, different-kind-of-new-show Anderson Cooper 360. Looks a lot like all the other trashy news shows. |

Blogger News Item (Oct 07 2003 23:45 GMT) - Oliphant on Arnold Here I thought maybe I was being too extreme about poor Adolph, er Arnold, when up pops the highly respected and nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist, Oliphant, with a positively savage take on him and his Nazi sympathies. The Hilter figure in the right bottom is saying "Mein Gott, I think he's got, I really think he's got it". The two figures at left bottom converse saying "Please don't misunderstand him, there's really nothing to understand" and "Well, you can take the boy out of Austria, but.." |
