Governor Arnie (Oct 08 2003 06:59 GMT) - So I lost in my bid for governor. It's with great sadness that I accept my defeat. But now, I guess my signed Arnold Schwarzenegger photo on my desk at work is worth even more money. Now if I can just find somebody with my name and sell it to them and earn some money for my next bid for governor - or at the very least - pay for a couple raffle tickets in the fireman's auction. I mean heck - an unsigned Join Arnold hat is going for $60. |

Drop in FoI requests (Oct 08 2003 06:56 GMT) - It's hardly surprising, given the changes made to Ireland's freedom of information legislation that I've previously covered, but new figures show a 53% drop in applications under the rules since the beginning of the year. |

Transition to liberalism (Oct 08 2003 06:54 GMT) - The father who killed his daughter got a life sentence (see related post). One thing I find curious though-where are the mentions of honor kills in Gulf states? After all, Jordan (even Pakistan) are relatively liberal Muslim countries, yet the... |

Arnold's publicity machine (Oct 08 2003 06:52 GMT) - "This goes to show how important one appearance on the Today show can be" according to Jay Leno. The remark was in jest but leads to questions about whether Leno and the show can claim not to have breached FCC rules regarding fairness and balance. The FCC, of course, bent the rules substantially, reclassifying the Howard Stern show as a news programme in order to allow it to interview Arnold without requiring balance during the campaign. The Howard Stern show, seemingly, claimed that the decision to interview Arnold had nothing to do with his candidacy - it was purely coincidental (from their end, if not Arnold's). Of course, maybe the rules weren't breached. |

ROCK ON, ARNOLD (Oct 08 2003 06:52 GMT) - It looks like over 60% of the popular vote went for a Republican candidate. CNN says that Arnold earned more female votes than Cruz, despite the groping allegations. I predict that these two facts will be the most relevant in tommorrow's left-wing spinning. Why? Because first of all, the Democrats will try to confuse you into thinking the election wasn't that big of deal. |

M$ patent a technology Yahoo! have been using for ages? (Oct 08 2003 06:51 GMT) - The patent in question is over the feature that notifies users when the person they are communicating with is typing a message. read the patent here. Microsoft must have rushed this one, it was files in December 2002 and the USPTO are just not that quick these days. Full rundown at Cnet. However I would argue that part of claim 1 has been in IRC for years in the form of idle reporting. |
