VA Opening New Outpatient Clinic in Green Bay (Oct 09 2003 00:59 GMT) - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will open a new community-based outpatient clinic for veterans in Green Bay, Wisc., on Dec. 1. The new clinic, which will serve 1,200 veterans, is expected to decrease waiting times at VA's Appleton and Cleveland clinics. VA Funds Homeless Programs In Every State (Oct 09 2003 00:59 GMT) - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi today announced that for the first time in its history the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is providing grants to organizations that care for homeless veterans in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.'Just three years ago, VA supported 43 homeless programs that provided about 1,250 transitional housing beds in just 24 states,' said Principi. 'Today, we are providing grants to every state and the District of Columbia, supporting 8,200 beds operated by more than 250 programs. This historic achievement is a direct result of President Bush's determination to end chronic homelessness in America. |

VA Increases Payments to Medal of Honor Recipients (Oct 09 2003 00:59 GMT) - Monthly federal payments to 136 living recipients of the Medal of Honor are rising 67 percent this month. Since at least World War I, the federal government's agency for veterans has paid a monthly stipend to holders of the military's highest decoration for combat valor. Under the new rates, the payments will rise from $600 monthly to $1,000 monthly. 'This increase reflects in small part the thanks of President Bush and a grateful nation for the uncommon valor and bravery of these veterans,' said VA Secretary Anthony J. Principi. |

They are the third tier of the enterprise pyramid, behind the large companies and the SMEs in the developed markets, from whom they are quite different. SMEs are not very IT-focused. For many, IT is an after-thought. Part of the reason is that these enterprises do not necessarily have a dedicated IT department. |

Spammer exploits PHP app to 0wn computer (Oct 09 2003 00:55 GMT) - Eli the Bearded sez, "Long, detailed writeup of webserver getting 0wned by a sophisticated spammer. Through a PHP product security hole a webserver was converted to a full time spam machine following orders from a remote server. The author of this paper has found that this is not an isolated event and apparently has been going on for months. Got a server? Keep it patched, including any silly little add-ons like the photo gallery bit that got subverted here. |
