First Look At Sun's Java Desktop System (Oct 10 2003 20:59 GMT) - It arrived in the mail today: the Java Desktop System beta, in the form of a live CD, based on SuSE's 8.2 live evaluation CD. I was eager to try Sun's attempt at creating a user-friendly Linux distribution, so I signed up for beta-testing, and this live-CD is the result. I was kind of disappointed to see it was only a live-CD, since I am not really fond of them. |

(Oct 10 2003 20:59 GMT) - VIA Kenny comes this essay on the California Democratic Party during the recall, and how it was completely wrong about virtually everything. It also notes the hypocrisy of the Democrats suddenly becoming the "morality police" when allegations of sexual misconduct arose around Arnold. This truly is hypocrisy. The Democrats argued that Clinton's sexual misconduct was between him, his wife and his extramarital lovers. They alleged that it was a private matter. |

Steve Carell On Howard Dean's Campaign Trail (Oct 10 2003 20:56 GMT) - This is a great clip. And not just cause I'm a Deanie. This is just plain funny. Steve follows Howard around at one of his speaking engagements, and then turns the tables and makes Dean get behind the camera to film the event. Right on to Steve Carell for putting this together. |

Half Measures (Oct 10 2003 20:55 GMT) - I have an old Pioneer DV-515 DVD Player which supports Last Memo - a feature which memorizes the place where I stopped watching a Disc. It's a feature I use a lot. This week, I have started Once Upon a Time in the West, stopped near the half way mark, started Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and stopped at the half way mark. Now I am about to start Matrix Reloaded and I hope this time, that I see it through to the end! (I really must learn to watch either of my Lord of the Rings disc in one sitting and on this note, I notice that not all of my TNG and DS9 discs support the "Last Memo" feature). |
