I'm not worried about WiFi (Oct 10 2003 20:04 GMT) - Apparently some parents in Illinois are suing a school district because they're using WiFi in the classroom [*]. Cato brilliance (Oct 10 2003 20:03 GMT) - It is so rare that I am in 100% agreement with the Cato Institute, but there have been important examples in the past (Eldred). Here's another. There's a great essay by Doug Bandow titled "Don't Ban Technology to Solve Copyright Problems," which appeared in the Washington Times but is not yet on Cato's site here. Stay tuned, and stay right (as in correct) Cato. |

New Disney Space Ride Comes Complete With Real Life Nausea (Oct 10 2003 20:01 GMT) - It's no secret that amusement parks these days are creating ever more sophisticated attractions (often including ever more heart stopping drops). Disney has usually been a bit more creative with their attractions, and the latest one sounds like a doozy. They're trying to replicate the experience of launching into space - complete with "nausea and brief moment of weightlessness". The brief moment of weightlessness sounds cool, but the nausea isn't particularly appealing. In initial runs of the ride, that queasy feeling became a little too strong for some, and ride attendants say they needed to "send for more towels" to help keep the floor clean. |

Stupid software tricks (Oct 10 2003 20:00 GMT) - :) boreale$ cvs update -q cvs [update aborted]: -q or -Q must be specified before "update" Translated: "I know what you're trying to do, but it's not the way I want it, so I'm going to make you retype the command." Not only that, it doesn't even give you something to cut and paste. Not only that, but it apparently can't tell if I typed -q or "-Q"! |
