Automated Comment SPAM Solution (Oct 11 2003 07:04 GMT) - I now have a working captcha thanks to James Seng. I really don't care how much of a pain it is on the accessibility front, the spammers have driven me to finding a working solution. The don't allow comments from google searches hack also makes first time comments an accessibility problem so this is more workable if you ask me. Gratuitous thanks go to the queen of geek'ness Joy for linking it and thanks also to the vast amount of reading I did (trackbacks sent) before deciding this hack was worth it. |

Stock your fridge with groceries, NOW! (Oct 11 2003 07:00 GMT) - Albertsons, Ralphs, and Vons supermarket checkers across California are going to go on strike this weekend. Citing Wal-Mart's move into the market with it's "Supercenters" (double-decker monstrosities), your grocery store is in a rush to cut costs to compete with the 5000-pound gorilla. And by compete, I mean follow. They are busting union-chops to reduce employee benefits. A Merrill Lynch analysts says they have 3-5 years to get to the Wal-Mart (non-union, nobody gets paid over $7/hour) level, or face extinction. |
