The discussion seems to have started in late September when Brian Weatherson posted some philosophy journal prices to his blog. Comments to the posting criticized the high price of Synthese ($1,652/year for institutions, $70 for individuals, from Kluwer). This elicited a detailed and undefensive reply from John Symons, the Synthese editor, who has brought down the price during his tenure and considered open access.
