Blogger News Item (Oct 13 2003 01:40 GMT) - Robert wasn't kidding about the breadth of the Tokyo Designers Block. Damn, my feet hurt from all the walking. Aoyama is NOT an area I hang out in, so even walking around there was an experience. Further proof, if any were needed, that Tokyo is a world-class, exciting place to be, something I sometimes forget during my mundane day-to-day activities. More later. |

Blogger News Item (Oct 13 2003 01:40 GMT) - According to this article, John Carmack's Armadillo Aerospace team is making steady progress towards a X PRIZE rocket vehicle. Playing the tortoise to Burt Rutan's hare , the Texas team just might win the race to 100km altitude. At least if some of the other teams don't get there first. |

The absurdity of the regulatory state (Oct 13 2003 01:40 GMT) - During my ongoing travels in the USA, I encountered two splendid examples of the idiocy of regulation... What you see in the above picture, taken a few days ago in Newark, New Jersey, is a steep concrete stairway leading to a carpark next to a roller-skate rink. Now I was rather puzzled to see a bunch of mandated disabled carpark bays next to a roller-skate rink, but the really funny bit was the small curb... |

There's always France (Oct 13 2003 01:38 GMT) - The great Californian 'brain drain' may be about to begin: Already the "buzz" among philosophers is that the election of the absurd Schwarzenegger, in a state already facing enormous problems, is going to lead philosophers in California, especially at UC system campuses, to start thinking about leaving. Those selfish Arnie voters have gone and done it now. See how they like struggling along without their philosophers. Hah! |

New Cat (Oct 13 2003 01:34 GMT) - My parents got a new cat today- I think it's a Persian. Now K wants to go back and by one of the siblings from the same litter, but I've got some reservations: 1) allergies- chance of sudden cat-induced anaphalaxis 2) small apartment- very fluffy cat, high chance of cat fur everywhere 3) will K have enough love for both of us? doubtful.... |
