Labour Continues Picketing of Fuel Stations (Oct 13 2003 17:58 GMT) - NIGERIA Labour Congress (NLC) and its civil society groups allies, under the umbrella of Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) are expected to continue, today, the picketing of petrol stations across the country to enforce the sale of petroleum products at the official rates of N34 and N32 for Petrol, diesel and kerosene, following alleged widespread non-compliance by marketers. LASCO had, weekend, embarked on nationwide picketing of petrol stations to enforce the sale of fuel at official rates and ensure that those hoarding the products are made to sell. NLC' s Assistant Secretary in-charge of organisation, Comrade Denja Yaqub, told Vanguard that the exercise in Lagos would begin at 9 am. |

$1bn Loss to Airways Bankruptcy (Oct 13 2003 17:58 GMT) - The Minister of Aviation recently disclosed that the country loses $1 billion or N140 billion annually to foreign airlines on account of the bankruptcy of the Nigerian Airways. Ordinarily, that would have been a revelation that should be alarming to Nigerians. But in the circumstances the Minister has merely pointed to another wasted opportunity which the government he serves has failed to address properly in the last four years. |

Major Marketers' Fuel Arrives At N33 Per Litre (Oct 13 2003 17:58 GMT) - MAJOR marketers took joint delivery of 45.6 million litres of petrol, weekend, at a landed cost of N33 per litre, and served notice that the pump prices would be higher than what currently obtains. Head of Communications, Unipetrol Nigeria Plc, Tokunbo Durosaro, said the delivery was part of major marketers' commitment to ensure availability of the products nationwide. |
