IBM debuts massive and expensive server (Oct 14 2003 04:47 GMT) - 1,000,000,000,000,000 bytes, based on hard drive manufacturer's need for advertising in base 10 math. Either way, it is a lot of space. That is what is inside a new IBM server, called Storage Tank. "Storage Tank has the potential to become to an organization's data what the Dewey Decimal system is to a library," said Dan Colby, general manager of storage systems at IBM. "It reinvents the way information is filed, managed, shared and accessed within an organization. |

Automatic prayer wheel (Oct 14 2003 04:46 GMT) - You've probably heard of Tibetan prayer wheels. But now digital-age buddhists have realized there are much better devices for praying, and they're all around us: Hard drives. Hard drives are, of course, spinning wheels -- disks overlaid with language, whipping around at thousands of revolutions a second. Drop by Deb Platt's site and you can download a mantra. |

Mark Steyn Is Definitely My Favorite Columnist These Days (Oct 14 2003 04:43 GMT) - Desperate Dems no match for Arnie Via The Professor. Steyn not only manages to be accurate and informative, but witty as well. Unlike Maureen Dowd, he's not just another "Don Rickles with an exceptionally high language quotient".You gotta admire the way the media stayed on the Democrats' sinking California ship right to the very end. On the CNN Web site, even after Gray Davis had conceded, they were sticking to the loser's talking-points: |

Long live Sitting Bull! (Oct 14 2003 04:40 GMT) - Watching Hugo Chavez in his weekly TV program can be surreal. I usually can't stand it so that I simply watch the recap later on TV of the most "significant" things he said. Sometimes as I watch, I am not sure whether I am seeing the real thing or a parody of our President. It is not easy to transmit the style to those that have never seen Hugo Chavez in action. A week ago it really seemed like a parody as Chavez spoke and sang Christmas songs laughing at the opposition. |
