Smarty (Oct 14 2003 19:28 GMT) - Learning a templating system for PHP has long been something I knew I *should* do, but had been long put off because I knew it would be uncomfortable, like cleaning my desk or going to the dentist. No matter which system I would chose, there would be some overhead in learning and in rearranging my work. Finally, inspired last week the implementation of templates at blogg.de, I jumped into the Smarty template engine. And as I implemented my first template, I promptly made my first newbie mistake, namely confusing 'caching' with 'pre-compiling'. |

The Kindness of Joseph Temeczko (Oct 14 2003 19:28 GMT) - In a nice update to the inspiring (honestly, no irony intended) story about late Polish immigrant and Minnesota resident, Joseph Temeczko, who generously left his $1.4 million life savings to the city of New York after September 11, 2001; it's unclear his intentions, but Temecezko's first job in the United... |

Rainy Day To-Do List (Oct 14 2003 19:28 GMT) - Being that it is my "day off," I should try to get something done before tomorrow's pressures begin. Help needed - Remote Procedure Call keeps failing [Colin Davison] (Oct 14 2003 19:28 GMT) - I have just purchased a new laptop, and there is a fault with Windows xp professional. I am well used to using XP (have 4 other XPs in the recent past). Everytime I log onto the net I about 10 minutes before a message flags up giving me 60 seconds to save my files before the whole thing closes down and reboots. Can anyone please assist me with resolving this problem? It happens without any other application being open - purely the connection to the internet. |

New Feature: Where is Anthony right now?! (Oct 14 2003 19:28 GMT) - I've been meaning to code this this up for years, however there was little use as I mostly in Sydney. Given the fact that I should be studying for uni exams I managed to procrastinate my way into developing it. Below the graduation count-down on the right side is a personal activity and location indicator. It's driven by a combination of default rules of what I generally do each week as well as being linked to my Calendar (Outlook XP). The indicator first checks the database for a specific scheduled "activity" for the current date/hour/minute from Outlook flagged as non-sensitive, if there is no activity scheduled, it checks for a "rule" based on the day of week/hour/minute. |
