Screening for Vengeance (Oct 14 2003 20:00 GMT) - I am not 100% certain I understand this story, but it seems the Motion Picture Association of America has decided that sending out DVD copies of movies to Academy Award voters results in too many pirated copies of the works showing up. The MPAA's solution is to ban such "screening" media. But actors and directors note that there is no way Academy voters can see many small-budget films unless it is on a disc. They want the ban reversed. Like I said, I'm not sure a get all the issues at play because it sure seems like a sure watermarking mechanism for a relative handful of discs could solve things without dooming low-budget films to Oscar obscurity. |

Christ, I'm bored of footballers (Oct 14 2003 20:00 GMT) - Christ I'm bored of hearing about footballers. I wouldn't mind their overblown pay packets, petty tantrums, ignorance, ineloquence, belligerence, lack of grace and all-round childishness if you could argue that despite all those things, they were true professionals, dedicated to the cause. But they're not. They hardly have a taxing work schedule and yet produce very little. In the case of the English football team, it's a lot of promise and no delivery. |

Fizzy Apple Juice (Oct 14 2003 20:00 GMT) - I am nursing a Tango. No, not the sexually charged dance (I dance, but NEVER sexually - if you have seen me dance you will be fully aware of this), the fizzy drink thing. Probably my first Tango since high school. Speaking of school, my mother has returned to Lanark after her 4 day adventure in London. I hope she enjoyed herself. |

loutre : Léo is back ! Ah ah... |
