Labour Protests Arrest, Arraignment of NLC Officials (Oct 15 2003 16:44 GMT) - LABOUR Leaders in the country have condemned the arrest and subsequent court action against seven officials of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja over an attempt to enforce the official sale of petrol per litre at N34 per litre. They described the action as the worsening evidence of militarisation and dictatorial governance in Nigeria. The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Congress of Free Trade Unions (CFTU) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of (PENGASSAN), in separate comments, called for immediate release and dis-continuation of any court action against the arrested labour leaders to avoid further tension in the nation's polity. |
