booker prize (Oct 15 2003 20:22 GMT) - The Booker prize has been won by DBC Pierre. However the most interesting thing about the BBC 2 awards show was the 20 minute long video diary film from the judges. The 5 judges each had to read 150 books in 4.5 months. That's almost 1 a day! |

Quick update (Oct 15 2003 20:22 GMT) - I'm back from Oberlin, which looks like a really great school. Lecture (Oct 15 2003 20:21 GMT) - I have science talks with the Little Fayoumis when we're walking home. I had class today, Sandstrom and then Lit, and I boiled down some stuff for the Little Fayoumis. He was learning a little about operating systems today. Different kinds of operating systems, and what they do. (Basically, you can turn a computer on, and you can see what files and programs you have. |

As the talks were computerized, even if you, like me, missed the conference, you can view Blum's slides here and Randall's slides here. Randall also has a companion paper that appeared in the proceedings. Eli Upfal also gave a tutorial on Performance Analysis of Dynamic Network Processes which I haven't found online yet. |

Chris @ 10/15/2003 10:51 AM (Oct 15 2003 20:20 GMT) - I use Mozilla on my Linux box at home; under Windows, I actually use AvantBrowser, which gets me all the nice bits of Mozilla (tabbed browsing, popup blocking, etc) without the occasional page-not-rendering-right bits (it uses the IE rendering engine, but provides its own UI). And I paid for Opera to use on my phone, too. So I've got all bases covered :) |
