Let's hope that's not all (Oct 15 2003 23:35 GMT) - Could the Internet be about to lose one of its best bloggers? Let's hope it's just a temporary break in transmission as Chris Locke is one of the sharpest observers and commentators not to mention entertaining writers on the weblog circuit right now. While some agonise over exactly what a weblog is and whether having one makes you a serious writer and countless thousands of others just get on with it, Rageboy shows that it's pointless to try to define a medium by its message. Someone give the man a job, or buy his books because the blogosphere can't afford to lose such an individual voice. |

He also shows how to bypass the overhead of subroutine calls entirely and how to quantify the behavior of your code by measuring its speed and space usage. |

Ken Magill Reams Spitzer in Final Column (Oct 15 2003 23:34 GMT) - Ken Magill uses his last DM News column and his typical wit to complain about New York's showboating prosecutor, Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer's office conducted what Magill calls an "asinine 'investigation'" that forced Yahoo to temporarily forgo marketing efforts to its 200 million members. Spitzer's office took action when Yahoo indicated it was switching subscribers to a default "I-want-marketing-messages" status unless they opted out within 60 days. The eventual settlement, however, failed to preclude that practice and, instead, inserted irrelevant requirements (no porn to kiddies) or redundant ones (must notify customers beforehand). DM News reports. |

Enron (Oct 15 2003 23:32 GMT) - Salon is running a fascinating article about the internal scheming of Enron before and after the energy Crisis in California. The article ties together a few dozen e-mail messages recently made public by FERC as part of an ongoing investigation.I'm galled at the attitude evidenced in the selected e-mail. I'm sure there is "another side" to this information, but this makes a lot of people look really, really bad. |
