Burkean Mysteries (Oct 16 2003 00:57 GMT) - I've long had a vague notion that reading an Agatha Christie mystery must be like curling up in an overstuffed chair in front of a blazing fire, with a pot of tea and a plate of biscuits. But I don't... |

Faster than light experiments (Oct 16 2003 00:56 GMT) - For the past decade, much attention has been given to experiments that purportedly showed faster than light effects. In these experiments, pulses of light seemed to move through a medium faster than c, the "speed of light" that is supposed to be insurpassable. (I'll refer to this maximum speed as c rather than as the speed of light so we don't get too confused. I hope.) Even prior to these experiments, as early as around 1910, ideas about just what can or can't travel faster than c have been refined and most physicists now consider the rules of special relativity to dictate that information can't travel faster than light. |

The high irony, of course, is that the Democratic Party establishment is apparently not as perceptive a judge of Democratic candidates as Sandy is. Because of Dean's early and consistent opposition to the war in Iraq, and because he hails from Vermont ("hey, that's where Ben and Jerry come from! |

Bad Electronics Day (Oct 16 2003 00:54 GMT) - In the last few days, two bits of major electronics have been fritzy, and just now got fixed. Everything decides to go fritzy at the same time, of course. First, my TV decides to turn off, then on, then off again. I looked at it a minute last night and couldn't find anything major wrong. Then, this morning, my internet connection goes out. |

Can of Corn (Oct 16 2003 00:53 GMT) - Way back in the day, I loved baseball. The kinda love that carried big binders of cards to school and still had room for memorizing minor leauge prospects.
