Yellow Pages Group to Start Inventory Auction (Oct 17 2003 00:05 GMT) - A yellow pages trade group will launch a spare inventory online auction starting nexts week. While most trade groups have tried to argue that their particular flavor of media holds a brand value that cannot be quantified by the cruel supply and demand factors of an auction, the yellow pages industry is quite accustomed to commodification. They hope simply to sell the extra 15 percent of inventory that often goes unbought. The auction will include online and other forms of directory advertising as well. MediaPost reports. |

US judge orders reporters to reveal sources (Oct 17 2003 00:04 GMT) - A US Federal Judge has ordered a number of journalists to reveal their sources, in a followup to the Wen Ho Lee espionage case. U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson late last week ordered journalists at the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Associated Press and Cable News Network to reveal who in the government may have disclosed derogatory information to them about Wen Ho Lee, a former nuclear weapons scientist who was the chief suspect in an espionage case. Lee has sued the... |

Strategy Secrets of ENRON (Oct 17 2003 00:03 GMT) - Megan McArdle uncovers one of the strategy secrets of ENRON: Asymmetrical Information: Question of the day: I've heard of a supposedly foolproof system of winning at roulette, as follows: 1) Put down your stake on either even, odd, black, or red 2) If you lose, double what you had on the table and bet again on the same thing. |

How Stupid Do They Think We Are? (Oct 17 2003 00:03 GMT) - The Washington Post--in the very last paragraph of a story--provides another example of the fact that telling the truth is not an option in the Bush White House. The Post and the Times report on September 27 that the CIA has forwarded a criminal referral to the Justice Department, and yet Ashley Snee claims with a straight face that on September 28 "no one in the White House had any idea there was an investigation"? How dumb do they think people are? Senior Federal Prosecutors and F.B. |

Why Not? (Oct 17 2003 00:03 GMT) - If it is really the case that no senior Justice Department official has recommended that Ashcroft recuse himself from the Plame investigation, then Ashcroft is being very badly served by his aides: Ashcroft is simply too close to too many of the principals for a failure of the investigation to be interpreted as anything other than Ashcroft taking a dive. Of course, there is the possibility that Ashcroft and his senior aides think that their role is to make sure that the investigation fails... Senior Federal Prosecutors and F.B. |
