- DfES, LSC and HEFCE have produced a report that considers the issues within institutions which combine further education and higher education provision. This includes mergers of further and higher education institutions, transfers of further education institutions to higher education status, and mixed economy further education colleges delivering substantial levels of higher education provision. The study found that the mergers ensured the medium to long term survival of much of the provision offered by the further education institutions. However, it is not believed possible to introduce bureaucratic mechanisms to protect further education provision in higher education institutions perpetually. |
