Checkerboard Effect (Oct 17 2003 02:03 GMT) - Today I played with some of the timeline effects available for download at flashextensibility.com. I especially liked Keith Peters' Checkerboard effect. It takes the selected object(s) on the stage, measures their dimensions and then applies a mask to the object(s) which grows by one square per frame. The number of frames the effect spans depends on the number of columns and rows you specify when you first apply the effect. |

Blast from the past (Oct 17 2003 02:02 GMT) - Yeah, I've got NaNoWriMo on my mind. I've been going through and organizing my notes and trying to do prepwork before things start in two weeks. Being typical me, though, and spending more time tinkering with tools than the dealing with the actual content... [Maybe if I format all my comments regarding previously written work in one color and future stuff in another, and use different fonts for changes implemented and discarded...] I keep questioning myself over why I'm bothering to participate in NaNoWriMo. |

The Six Dilemmas of the Moderate Islamist - Tech Central Station (Oct 17 2003 02:01 GMT) - "Moderate Islamists could ultimately decide if America wins or loses its "War on Terror." Victory depends on their support, and thus also on our support of them, but in the end as well on the support of Muslims everywhere. Why? Because Islam is in the throes of renewal and the Muslim World is changing. Moreover we cannot genetically modify Muslim societies so they become happy American replicants. |

Three new LogWatch Patches (Oct 17 2003 02:01 GMT) - I released three new patches to the LogWatch mailing list this morning. Firstly, the amavis script when running at high detail now reports the from address of the virus sender. This allows someone running amavis to turn off the administrator notifies for each individual virus but still make sure no local users have been infected. I've included both a patch against the last version and the complete script. The complete script may be easier for Kirk to work with because the original version doesn't seem to have made it into CVS yet. |
