Blacklisted (Oct 17 2003 03:47 GMT) - I received my first comment spam today. It ticked me off a bit. Apologies to people who might have been looking for cheap flights, but I deleted the comment. I took a little time to make some preventative steps to prevent this from happening again. I downloaded and installed Jay Allen's MT-Blacklist. |

Housing market continues history of strong growth (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - Are you looking to buy a house? It's going to cost you. According to a report released by the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, the recent rise in the prices of homes in the state is not expected to collapse the market, and will eventually slow down or flatten, said James Hughes, Dean of the Bloustein school. |

Pitt on tap for RU (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - Through the first six games of 2003, the Scarlet Knights' defense has been blitzed via the rushing game. Rutgers is 108th nationally in run defense, allowing over 200 yards on the ground alone. But, for the first time since week two, Rutgers (3-3, 0-2) will be facing a team without any form of established halfback to propel the rushing attack. |

Decisive stretch continues as Knights head to Chestnut Hill (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - Big East Conference matchups have come sporadically throughout the Rutgers men's soccer team's 2003 campaign, but never in the abundance that they are now. The Scarlet Knights (7-3-2, 4-1-2) started their four-game in-conference extravaganza on Tuesday with a second-rate 1-1 tie to the Orangemen of Syracuse University. |

Puppies keep ears open for sirens (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - Roll over, sit and bark are easy enough, but the real professionals can train dogs to successfully assist the blind. With help from the Rutgers University Police Department and Emergency Services, the Cook College Eye Puppy Raising Club met Wednesday in the back of Lot 99A for its first-time dog training session designed to acclimate its puppies to the sound of sirens. |

The conservative manifesto (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - There is a spectre haunting Rutgers - the spectre of liberalism. At 19, I am a conservative Republican and an ideological minority. This country has gotten to a point where tolerant, "diverse" colleges and universities that advocate fairness and equality are beginning to ostracize those who don't hold one universal belief - that of liberalism. My social views have been bashed and underrepresented by the liberal majority at Rutgers and around the collegiate United States. |

Critics overlook value in fraternal life at Rutgers (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - To the editor: I would like to retort to Jonathan Kranz's letter, "Getting to root of destructive, violent acts" (The Daily Targum, Oct. 16). While I, nor any member of a greek letter organization, would ever excuse or condone the violent actions of anyone, Mr. Kranz's opinion can only be classified as a knee-jerk response. |

Academic prestige declines at U. (Oct 17 2003 03:46 GMT) - Diana Kelly is right in her column, "It's Not About the Game" (The Daily Targum, Oct. 16) - it's not about the game. I too am jealous of the memories that the older generations of alumni still cherish about the Rutgers football of their time. I imagine what it would be like to cheer for fellow students who came to the University as students, not as touted recruits who may or may not have been admitted to the University based on their academic records. |

California has put their trust in Arnold Schwarzenegger not only to govern them, but also to help rescue their huge budget deficit and faltering economy. |
