Annoyed (Oct 17 2003 08:58 GMT) - I got an email from Natalie, in which she asked me rather bluntly if she could have the password to my restricted entries. No, "hey how are you", no "long time no see", no whatever. I don't get it. Maybe... |

Genmodifierad mat och vetenskapskommunikation (Oct 17 2003 08:58 GMT) - Räcker det med information för att övertyga folk om att genteknik är ofarlig? Tja, alla tycker inte det: The culture of science communication has undergone a metamorphosis in the past decade. Until recently, science research councils referred to the 'public understanding of science' (with the unfortunate acronym of PUS), which, by implication, follows the 'deficit model' of science communication, in which the primary aim is to inform or to enhance the scientific literacy of the public. Scientists often believe that they only need to explain their research to the public for their ideas to be accepted. |

Comment: I've Had It (Oct 17 2003 08:56 GMT) - I heard somewhere that you could get passport for considerably less (like free) if you were using it for something like you would be using it for, non-profit, free publicity, good target audience...Comment from Shannon J Hager |

Das Wunder von Bern (Oct 17 2003 08:56 GMT) - Wie macht man eine Geschichte spannend, deren Ende jeder kennt? Ganz einfach: indem man weitere Geschichten hinzufügt. So hat jedenfalls Sönke Wortmann es geschafft, aus der altbekannten Geschichte des „Wunder von Bern“ einen recht unterhaltsamen Film zu machen. |

Why didn't NBC steal 'Coupling' outright? (Oct 17 2003 08:55 GMT) - When the bawdy British sitcom “Coupling” launched on the BBC2 in May 2000, comparisons to the American series “Friends” were inevitable. The stars included six attractive young actors -- three men and three women -- whose characters generally could be found hanging out in a local watering hole, obsessing over... |

SPML Provisioning and Identity Management Specification Balloted for Approval (Oct 17 2003 08:54 GMT) - The "Service Provisioning Markup Language (SPML) Version 1.0" specification has been released in Committee Draft for consideration as an OASIS Standard. The OASIS PSTC was formed in late 2001 to define an XML-based framework for exchanging user, resource and service provisioning information. The resulting V1.0 SPML specification defines the concepts, operations, deployment and XML schema, for an XML based request and response protocol for provisioning. |

I see Tim Bray is ... (Oct 17 2003 08:53 GMT) - I see Tim Bray is talking about BitTorrent and its ability to distribute porn. I met Bram Cohen, the guy who wrote BitTorrent, in the Seattle Airport on the way back from O'Reilly's foo camp. Real interesting guy. He says he doesn't fear getting sued by RIAA and that he's looking forward to the next stage of his life now that BitTorrent is pretty stable. |
