The Asterisk Blues (Oct 17 2003 13:59 GMT) - Asterisk Boy sits alone in his lair/ he don't give a damn about what's hangin' in the air/ His ears are closed to the voice of outsiders/ He only hears the yes-men and crooked advisers/ Asterisk Boy's got an itchy trigger finger/ He's a fat-cats-first-kill-the-rest right winger/ God made him king so he knows he's right/ He never lets his people stay away from a fight/ He tells a lie until he thinks it's true/ Asterisk Boy knows what to do/ he'll lock up anyone who gets in his way/ The voice in his ears tells him what to say/ Four more years of a nasty habit/ He's not going to let anybody else have it/ The money pours in from the corporate coffers/ Blood and profits is what he offers/ I've got the asterisk blues/ I can't win I can only lose/ It's treason they say/ to protest in this way/ I've got the asterisk blues... |

On the lamb (Oct 17 2003 13:55 GMT) - A week late, and probably shortly before the Globe will make the article vanish into the ether, I just found this piece on the Palestinian-owned restaurant we went for the post-Yom Kippur break-fast. I will quote somewhat liberally before it's removed from the site: As fast is broken, so are barriersA temple supports Palestinian's eatery Sepal Restaurant would be an unlikely place for many Jews to break their Yom Kippur fast, even in a time of peace. But this weekend's violence -- a Palestinian woman killed 19 in a suicide attack, and Israeli warplanes responded with an attack in Syria -- added resonance to the relationship that has grown between a Jewish congregation in Watertown and a local restaurant run by a Palestinian immigrant. To the sound of Moroccan and Algerian music, 65 members of B'nai Or, hungry after their 24-hour fast for Yom Kippur, crowded Sepal last night for falafel and hummus. |

US Diary - Oz to LAX (Oct 17 2003 13:55 GMT) - Well my first experience of the new security measures at American airports was both good and bad. I got off my flight - tired and grumpy - flight wasn't too bad but I only slept an hour on the plane and now my body is trying to puzzle out why it is daylight instead of night. After some consultation my body thinks it is about Friday at 2am in Oz time. Unfortunately all the clocks suggest that actually in US time it is Thursday at about 9.30am. |

(ZDNet UK) |
