"But Officer, I'm talking to 911!" (Oct 17 2003 13:47 GMT) - Two Bronx cops who pulled over a driver for gabbing on his cell phone yesterday morning found out he had a good excuse - and instead of writing him a ticket, they made like midwives. (Talking while driving is a no no in New York State.) Mother and baby are doing well, father didn't get a ticket. The feel good story of the day! |

How the Hitlerisation of British history teaching may be saving British Independence (Oct 17 2003 13:47 GMT) - Last week I linked from White Rose to this piece by Jemima Lewis in the Telegraph, because it contained some stuff of White Rose relevance about using technology to enable parents to keep track of their kids. But, as commenter Mark Ellott pointed out there, this Telegraph piece also contained some interesting reflections on the teaching of history, provoked by the increasing annoyance being expressed by Germans about Britain's continuing obsession with the history of... |

Broad Match Search Terms Demand Negative Strategy (Oct 17 2003 13:46 GMT) - Kevin Lee points out the ability for broad match keyword campaigns to employ the negative keyword capability to better target inventory. Instead of purchasing all of the pages that come up for the keyword "brittany," for instance, a dog groomer would want to first remove all the misspelled references to Britney Spears, perhaps with the negative keyword "music." Anyway, I found an interesting article detailing the ghosts that reside throughout the Tower of London. Mr. |

Goat, or Bambino - which is the bigger curse? (Oct 17 2003 13:44 GMT) - After my recent post on the Yankees victory, I got this in email on the whole curse thing: IMO, the goat curse is bigger. The Bosox' problem is not only their curse, but the fact that they play in the American League, which means they're always going to have to go thru the Bronx to get to the w/s. Plus, the fact that they play in the East, which means their only chance to get into the playoffs is as a wild card, which means they're never going to have home field advantage in ANY series. The Cubs, they have no such issues. |
