It was worth a try (Oct 17 2003 13:30 GMT) - If you were wondering, I wasn't offered an interview for the placement I applied for. Looks like I won't be working for IBM next year, then. Still, plenty more fish in the sea :). (193 words) |

Newspaper Sites Ad Revenue on Rise (Oct 17 2003 13:30 GMT) - Newspaper publishers The New York Times and The Tribune Co. both announced quarterly online ad revenue gains of about 25 percent. For the Time, the extra $3 million constitutes just about all of the net profit increase it reported. The Times also concluded that the revenue increase was largely due to inventory increases in areas that were already sold. IAR reports. |

Teacher chastened for racial epithet (Oct 17 2003 13:30 GMT) - A Kennedy High School (Fremont, CA) English teacher is on leave this week after using a racist term for blacks -- apparently by accident -- while addressing some students in her class, parents and school officials say. Teacher Malti Massey let the word slip while using the rhyme "eeny, meeny, miney, moe" to choose a student to take a note to the main office earlier this month, students said. Current versions of the old rhyme use the word "tiger" instead of the offensive term. District officials wouldn't confirm the teacher's name, nor would they say what disciplinary action, if any, the district might take, citing employee confidentiality. However, such language is not tolerated at school, they said. |

Germany's Agenda 2010 (Oct 17 2003 13:27 GMT) - WSJ.com - We Will Not Vote For Schroeder's Reform Bill I agree with Mr. Schaeuble, the author of the article and chairman of the Christian Democrats in Germany, but would probably still vote for the bill. It seems to represent real progress for Germany, even if only modest progress. If there's a way to achieve greater reform of the German labor market, by all means do it. |
