Police Nab Vicious Crow By Getting It Drunk (Oct 17 2003 17:18 GMT) - BERLIN (Reuters) - German police apprehended a vicious crow which was attacking passers-by by getting it drunk on bait laced with alcohol, authorities said Monday. The bird eluded its captors after attacking a woman and a young girl at the weekend until cat food soaked in high-alcohol fruit schnapps proved too tempting to resist. "The crow was completely smashed," said a spokesman for police in the western city of Dortmund. |

Pocket PC Thoughts Birthday Prize Awarded To... (Oct 17 2003 17:16 GMT) - It took a few days longer than I thought, but it was tough making a decision as to the best post about our birthday event. The winner is blang, for the following post: "Last new year's day I was invited to a party. I had already spent half of the day on your website entering any contest I could. Before I left my house, I was trying to convince my husband, who wasn't going to the party, to watch your website and enter the contests until I got back. |

Perl programming (Oct 17 2003 17:15 GMT) - What a horrible language! Just spent ages debugging a if-then-else loop only to find that comparisons of strings don't use if $fred == $jim but instead use if $fred eq $jim and seeing as though $fred was a variable but $jim is actually a fiixed string I had several combinations to get correct before it would work, and I have no reason why using lc($fred) to convert $fred to lowercase didn't work. Unfortunately Demon don't support php or asp on their server so I can't program in these languages (which I know a little more about). |

Helpline Comment (24093) (Oct 17 2003 17:15 GMT) - to with the church compaq. if you just format the hard drive, the compaq diagnostics partition will not be affected. if you fdisk and only delete the dos partition and not the 1st "non-dos" partition, it will still be ok. you can make a set of floppies from a compaq with a diags partition. ( i would make 2 sets) my job at merck was to install a new hd in hundreds of compaq machines. |
